Who is the best player in the NBA?

By: Ryan S.

Many people including fans, spectators, and experts of the game think that Kobe Bryant is the best player in the league today. They base it off of how much money he has been offered in his deal with the Lakers. The fact of the matter is that you have to base it off of how much total revenue he makes for the program. This means people pay for tickets to come see the specific player play. I think that in this day and age that player is Lebron James. There is no one more explosive and more exciting to see play than Lebron James.  During a recent sports center event during the Money Talks section of the hour, they were discussing the overall value of Lebron James to the Miami Heat Organization. They factored in the success he brought the Heat in his years there, along with the countless amounts of sell out games and memorabilia that he has helped the organization sell his overall worth is 175 million dollars. This amount blows Kobe’s overall value out of the water. Lebron with no doubt is the best player in the NBA according to Money Talks, the NBA stats and the fans of the NBA.

  1. I would agree that Lebron James is the greatest NBA player in the NBA right now, but Michael Jordan is still the best of all time. Lebron pretty much by himself helped the heat win the NBA championship last year and if he keeps himself away from injury, he will eventually be the best to ever play. Being considered a best player involves being a winner. So far Lebron only has one ring so he still has to prove himself to be a winner.

  2. The reason as to why it is hard to decide between these three stars, is because they played during different time periods. Sure Kobe is only a a couple years older than Lebron, but so much has changed over the past few years, especially with how much teams are willing to pay their players. I don't know if it's fair to base a players ability based on how much money fans pay to see him. Tickets weren't as expensive when Michael Jordan was around, so how can that be fair? It also isn't fair that Lebron plays beside three other superstars and Kobe only plays along side one.

  3. I agree with certain aspects of this. LeBron is dynamic as a defender, passer and scorer. He also is one of the only players in the NBA big, strong, and quick enough to guard positions 1-5 on the court. However, comparing him vs. M.J is difficult because it's completely different eras. Using revenue generated isn't a good basis because of inflation, like TJ said. LeBron gets to play with two superstars, but MJ also had Pippen and Kobe had Shaq and Pao, so that doesn't dismiss what LeBron has accomplished.

  4. I don't think that money measures how much a player is worth for example Nnamdi Asomugha agreed to a five-year, $60 million deal, and at least $25 million guaranteed, contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. But after a disappointing season last year and failure to restructure his contract, Asomugha was released within the first hour of the official beginning to the 2013 NFL season. Money can't accurately measure someone's worth and ability to grow as a player such as new players in leagues like Kyrie Irving and Russel Wilson

  5. I don't really understand the point in arguing who is a better player when they all have different playing styles. In addition to my previous statement there is also a truckload of variables that can be taken into consideration, such as teammates, morale, age, position, salary. The list can go on and on but why argue about who is the best when we can just sit back and watch them go to work and enjoy the game?
