Many people criticize
the amount of money that professional athletes make, but people only look at
the highest paid athletes most athletes live paycheck to paycheck. The average
NFL salary is 1.9 million, but the thing is the average NFL career is under 5
years. Considering some players put everything in their career and have no plan
for when their knee gives out and they can’t play anymore. Yes some players in
every sport get payed way too much but in sports like hockey football, and
boxing they are risking their lives, and not only risking their lives but also
risking dehabilitating injuries that could make them mentally or physically
handicapped. Another thing to consider is once they are retired they are not
covered under the NFL health insurance which depending on the injury could
bankrupt a person very quickly, and on top of that they have there families to
take care of.
I agree that people who complain about what NFL and other professional athletes get paid don’t realize what they are putting at stake each day. It is like any othe profession that those who excel are rewarded with the greatest reward or in the America of today: the most money. When athletes go to work they are putting their bodies on the line, and a single play could possible change or ruin their whole lives.

Yeah I agree with Collin and Ricky. They may be paid the most but think about what they are doing. Now granted they aren't doing the most important job in the world which could bring up some controversy when thinking about the president and our troops. Yet when you think about the work they have to put in to do what they are doing is an unreal amount. Also, one of the main reasons those professional athletes are making so much money, is that people pay their ACTUAL money to watch them perform at their best for the pleasure of the fans. So in total they earn everything they receive as far as income goes. They play dangerous sports for their job but they also do it for our pleasure as fans.
ReplyDeleteI believe they are paid way too much. Yes they live pay check to pay check and don't have a back up plan if they get hurt, but it's their fault. They should've prepared for injury or any other type of football career ending problem. If you look at what they make and what they spend their money on it's no wonder why they live pay check to pay check. They should spend their money more wisely and plan for the future after football instead of just thinking football is going to support them for the rest of their lives especially if they go and spend their pay check on pointless unnecessary house and car.
ReplyDeleteI believe that professional athletes are definitely getting paid too much. With our economy the way it is, we should be spending money on paying athletes millions of dollars just to play a sport. Athletics is a choice they made. When they tried out for the sport, they knew that it would be a dangerous sport and that they would be risking their lives for other people's entertainment. Professional athletes have different options that would be less dangerous for a job. Professional athletes should get a pay cut in order to help further the improvement of our economy.
ReplyDeleteI agree that NFL players are paid way too much. We have american citizens out there in poverty and they cannot fend for themselves. They struggle to put food on the table and then you have the NBA Ballers and the NFL Superstars buying steak and shrimp, wearing Versace and Gucci while the ordinary population has a wardrobe that costs about as much as they make in a game or sometimes even a quarter of play. It's ridiculous the amount of money that they make.
ReplyDeleteI think this post raises valid points, but to say they are living paycheck to paycheck is highly doubtful. I think the US invests way too much into the NFL and other sporting leagues, raising the demand for better teams, and thus raising the player's expectations on how much they are to be payed. I think a law should be enforced that puts a ceiling to the already ridiculously high amount of money they are making on a yearly basis. I would gladly throw myself into a game for millions of dollars if the risks were a minor broken bone or concussion which is usually always the case.
