Super Bowl Commercial Effect

Super Bowl Commercial Effect
Written By: AJ H.

Do you ever turn on the T.V. during the super bowl when it’s during commercials but you tune in more than during the actual game? Or what about only watching the Super Bowl because of the commercials? Well, these companies that pay for these commercials does not cost them a couple bucks. If your someone who watches for the actual game and during the commercials you go on social media, your ignoring commercials that cost people millions of dollars.

Most people watch the commercials more than during the regular season, and that’s exactly why is costs so much for one 30 second commercial. Now, you may be thinking that these businesses are insane for deciding to spend their money on that. Although, according to vox.com, 111 million people watched the Super Bowl last year which was the most watched sporting event in that year. Businesses must choose wisely because many commercials go over our heads. For example, there are hundreds of different car commercials, so businesses must create and choose the correct commercials so it sticks in the consumers heads to buy the products or to do whatever it is. To make the biggest jump of sales, the commercials must be unique and different than others.

The commercials with the content that is original and creative and the ones with celebrities usually get the most economic profit. According to forbes.com, 46% of the people that turn on the Super Bowl just want to watch the commercials and the half time show. The statistics show that after the most effective ads played during the Super Bowl the purchasing of those products are boosted greatly.

As it may sound like choosing to spend 5 million dollars on a 30 second commercial would be an outrageous idea, but it’s not. Over 110 million people watch the Super Bowl and just less than 50% of the viewers only watch for the commercials and the halftime show. If the commercial that a business is unique and draws the attention of a large fraction of the viewers, that product or service could rise greatly in sales and overall boost their business.

  1. I really find it crazy that businesses are willing to spend over $5 million on one 30 second television ad. But, as you pointed out, commercials that are unique and interesting garner lots of attention, as over 110 million people watch the super bowl, and can now become interested in your product. The key part is having a funny, attention-grabbing, successful commercial that can gain interest for your product, and your product might just be the new thing.

  2. I found it really interesting to know that 46% of the people tune in to watch the super bowl just because of the commercials and half time show. I know that some people will watch the game for these things but almost half of the people who tune in doesn't seem right.

  3. Its crazy that people will spend that much on a commercial and you said that they end up gaining profits from it but are they gaining more than they are losing. And over 100 million people watch the game but how many people watch the normal season games a week is it about equivalent and would it be better and cheaper for them to do that instead.

  4. I think it is crazy how much the cost of a super bowl commercial. To think that a 30 second commercial costs that much is crazy because how much can that quick clip really boost sales. The companies that create whole brand new ads that pop and stick with the viewers are definitely smarter companies because these commercials are the ones that have the potential to boost sales. If a company makes an ad that isn’t original and doesn’t stick with the viewer then the company, in my opinion, wasted a lot of money. Think about how many ads each viewer is going to see that night. If the commercial for your company didn’t have anything that stuck out over all the rest of the commercials then the total boost in sales will not be as great.

  5. It would be very interesting if there were some statistics that compare the difference between the cost of the commercial and the increase in revenue. Many of the company that you see during the Superbowl are bigger company's that have the money.

  6. It's cool that these companies get instant profit off their ad during the super bowl. People can be total opposite, the people that mute the commercials and the people that only watch the commercials. In a way it's kind of weird that "super bowl commercials" is a thing, companies spend months preparing and perfecting 30 seconds. I've found myself looking up super bowl commercials on youtube before.

  7. Buying TV time for a Super Bowl commercial is a large investment for a business and it is an investment that I think is a smart one. When the Super Bowl comes around there is as much hype about the commercials as there is about the game. I know lots of people in my family who watch the Super Bowl just for the commercials and there are lots of families like that around the US. Commercials are talked about before and after the game which is exactly what businesses want. When a company buys time for the Super Bowl they hope that they can get the most eyes on it as possible so that the viewers are influenced to buy that certain product. However the ability to craft a good commercial is as good as any because if it doesn’t hook the audience right away some viewers will tune out and not listen to your ad. This is why Super Bowl commercials are better than normal commercials because companies know they will have lots of eyes on this commercial so they have to spend more time and resources to craft a better commercials to get the viewers attention. I believe that this investment is worth it for business because with the millions of eyes watching this commercial it will increase the business's revenue.

  8. It seems as if it is a good way of advertising if they are willing to spend so much money. The problem is that the advertising effect in such a fast paced world only lasts few days, maybe not even one day. If the add is not funny or does not stick in the mind of consumers then the add is a waste of money. If the add is funny it may bring traction for one day. If the add defines the decade then you got to say wasssssup, and then you may bring traction for few days. The problem is that now days people watch the add for the humour so many times it does not bring any extra sales as the commercial just makes us laugh instead of convincing us that their product is good. The problem is that in one week the search results for the product is back to normal, an add campaign that costs so much but only provides a week's worth of consumers is not worth it.

The statistics of their company numbers must sky rocket after they are shown, especially low end type companies.
