The Packers

Timothy Haga

The Packers have recently been on a losing streak, not playing so good against good teams and mediocre teams. This has affected a lot of Packer fans watching the game on TV, evn at the games. With coming into the year, everyone predicting that it was Aaron Rodgers comeback season, you can see why everyone is disappointed by the losing record.

Their bad playing is affecting the economy, because many viewers are not watching as much as they used to. There aren’t as many people coming to lambeau field to watch the games, or even just regular events that are held at the field. Lambeau field is making as much money as they have in the past, as their viewers, and visitors are going done.

This is affecting the economy because not only are they losing money, but places around them are losing money and shops that sell any type of merch supporting the Packers. These shops are losing profit because they are buying jerseys and other packer merch that don’t get sold, and they lose the money that they spent on the clothes.

It is also making a big impact on places that the Packers sponsor.  The Packers sponsor many businesses such as Fleet Farm, and Johnsonville brat, and it becomes harder for them to sponsor these companies because they are sponsoring over 50 businesses while they aren’t making as much as they should.

  1. I do believe that the Packers aren’t doing so hot this year but I also think that nother reason why the demand for the Packers have gone down is because like you mention this year is Aaron Rodgers “comeback” season. I also don’t like the fact that since Aaron Rodgers got like the biggest paycheck out of any other quarterback, I would definitely want to see some wins and some good playing out of the team to even make me go and watch them play. I wonder if the prices for Packers tickets have gone down because of the fact people aren’t willing to pay a high price to see the Packers lose another game. I also think the big problem with people not buying merch is that the business thought they would sell a lot of merch ended up not selling as much as they wanted which in result caused a surplus of open seats and merch to be left lying around because of the Packer’s performance.

  2. You choose a good topic and very recent one. Because it is true that the shops and everything else is losing money because the packers are just not doing well. By not playing well people lose money but when your on a losing streak you lose a lot more money. Now with this while reading your piece I seen that you didn't reread/proof read because there was a couple of misspellings and some fluidity. But other than that have graphs of the money being lost or just a graph in general not just pictures

  3. I agree that the Packers losing streak has a greater impact than people truly know. One of thoses impacts is that because they are make less money ,because not as many people are watching the games on TV or going to watch them live, is that all the fundraisers that they are sponsoring are getting less funding and that in the long run is going to make it harder for research to be done to help find a cure for a disease, or help manufacture some new technology.

  4. Coming from someone who is a season ticket holder of the Packers I’ve noticed the same thing that you said. When the Packers are good during the span of the season more seats will be filled but when I went to the Packers vs Vikings game and more seats were filled. It could also be a rivalry game. On the business side of things the Packers are owned by the people so that’s how they get some of their funding. The people who live around the field they pay a tax and that’s the profit for making slight upgrades to the stadium. Many big football organizations rely on the city for getting some profits. One thing I can think of is all the small business that are located around Lambeau they thrive off Sunday games especially if it’s a Monday night game too. That’s when they get most of their proceeds. It also looks good for the business’s customer rate also because there are people who don’t tailgate and just want a quick eat or go to a sit down restaurant. Their sponsors are also suffering because they get an x amount of the ticket sales for the deal they have with the Packers. Jersey stores will see an increase of a specific number of they are doing good that season or just really good in general because there are some people that hop the bandwagon. But all in all I agree with you about this season is doing bad do the business and sponsors around Lambeau.

  6. I disagree because the last time the Packers did not sell out for a game was 1959. Although they're playing at a mediocre level this season it has caused ticket sales to decrease. Fans are still showing up to games to support their packers through thick or thin. If you look at other NFL teams around the country you will certainly see a lack fans in the stadium which indeed does have an impact of the economy of the team.

  7. I agree with Elliot, that the packers have not been that greatly impacted by the fact that they have been playing mediocre. Initially it may seem like that is the case but, like he said people still come, even though they are not playing the best and are a little off recently, people still come. The Packers still sell out for games unlike other teams when they go through a rough patch and are not playing to their fullest.

  8. Ticket sales have decreased since the season goes on.The packers are not as good as they´ve been in previous years but due to loyal fans the stands are always packed.

  9. I like this paper and how you related it to the packers but I do disagree because lambeau feild is always packed and I feel that the packers have slowed down in these last couple years so maybe you could add more information about the economics from when we won the super bowl in 2013 to having a losing record in 2018.

  10. Even though a few of your facts were correct such as the fact that the Packers have slowed down the past few years, plenty of your other facts were incorrect. The revenue from Lambeau Field has not slowed down due to the fact that the Packers hold the record for most consecutive sellout games, having sold out tickets for every game since 1959. Also the Packers don't sponsor other businesses due to them not having a physical owner, but many shareholders. They are sponsored by other businesses who want to profit off of being advertised at games which are fan-packed.

  11. I feel like this is a great topic to look deeper into. As many of us know, the Packers aren't having the ideal season that they wanted, especially with the return of Aaron Rodgers. However, I don't think that ticket sales will decrease too much since the Packers are known to have one of the more loyal fan bases in sports. Even with the losing record, fans will still go out to the games and support the team just because they are so dedicated. I just hope the reminder of the season for the Packers will be better than the first half so the team and Green Bay's economy and be tremendously better than before.
