The Release of the iPhone 7

The Release of the iPhone 7
Written By: Alex Goodyear

I love my smart phone. With it, I can do anything ranging from calling my friends, to searching the web, and using it to pay my bill at grocery stores. Perhaps this is one of the reasons that technology is at an all time high. People are demanding the newest, fastest, and overall best products. This urge for new technology is causing a huge macroeconomic change.

As I was looking into the smartphone markets, I noticed a trend. Although, the amount of new smartphone consumers is at an all time low, the newest product, the iPhone 7, is projected at a record high for sales. This phone will be released on September 16 and people are already camping out to be one of the first to wield the newest piece of technology. On top of the release of the Iphone, Apple is also releasing the series 2 apple watch, which is now not only a smartphone on one’s wrist, but a fashion statement as well.

Apple was the the main company to spearhead the technology boom making them one of the biggest name brands. Over the years, they have done a nice job of adapting to what consumers wanted from the productions of televisions and computers. Because of this Apple has been extremely successful and most families find multiple apple products in their homes today.

  2. While I too love my Iphone, I really love how they have kept stepping up their game. As their competitors like Samsung have made bigger phones, better cameras, and even watches I feel Apple has done that and then some. One of the things I find rather fascinating is that the Iphone 7 no longer has a earphone jack, and is waterproof. Making the Iphone 7 waterproof is a practical upgrade because when hasn't someone dropped their phone, let alone in water. No that Apple has set the bar even higher I wonder what Samsung will do next to compete?

  3. I thought that it was interesting that the sales are projected to be so high when the amount of new smartphone consumers is low. Why is this? Does the phrase "new smartphone consumers" not included people who already own a smartphone and plan on buying a new one? Otherwise, I'd like to know why this is.

  4. I think it's fascinating that the projected sales for the iPhone are at an all-time high, yet one can find endless criticisms of Apple's new phone on the internet or from any given news or technology outlet. It seems that as much as people like to negatively comment on Apple's new phone, especially the missing headphone jack, they will still drop vast amounts of money on it. I wonder what the reason is. Are people genuinely interested in the product versus other products, or do they just want the newest, shiniest, toy from Apple to show off?

  5. Along with Theo, I also thought the lack of "new smartphone consumers" was interesting in how it contradicted the likely record-setting sales of the iPhone 7. My hypothesis is that Apple product consumers are more likely to by a new phone at a faster rate (one every 1-2 years) compared to consumers buying other phones. I say this, because the iPhone is the most expensive and premium device on the market, and people who are likely to spend $900 on a phone are more likely to need the latest and greatest device every year.

  6. Along with Carson, I really think that social status and social pressure can really force you to buy expensive stuff that you really don't need. The aspect of everyone needing to buy the latest is more of a psychological intuition than a desire to buy a new smartphone. As Carson explains, the market goes heads over heals for a new iPhone, just because it is more of a collective item and not an optimal smartphone. So riddle me this, how can competition keep up with the fact that Apple takes stuff away (aka, the headphone jack) and still can post a higher price than an optimal smartphone can?

  7. I love how you talked about how apple keeps evolving for the people though they are already on top. However I think you should delve into that idea a little more. Specify how they do that, maybe talk about iOS updates or the new technologies. Even talking about the competitive market would work. I don't think this statement receives enough attention because, it is just that. A statement. Nothing behind it for support. Besides that great job, short yet insightful.

  9. I find it interesting that even though Apple is not getting many new customers they are predicting that the product will be one of it's highest selling ones. I have seen a lot of adds for the I-phone 7 so maybe that is why so many people want it.

  10. I always find it funny that people are willing to camp outside of a store for a phone. Apple will always make more than enough phones they wont run out. Being the first to have a phone is like being a kid trying to be the first one to recess. I think the competition between Samsung and Apple products are incredible, they both push each other to make the best technology. It is a great example of why our economy works. The headphone jack removal doesn't make any sense to me because apple bought Beats headphones so they are going to lose money there however, they must think that people having to buy wireless headphones from them are going to cover that cost.

  11. I love my iPhone too! I love how I have access to the Internet when I am on the go and can play games when I’m bored. However, whenever Apple releases a new product, I wonder when they are going to stop. The iPhone 7 that is about to come out doesn’t have an earphone jack and the touch ID button is going away. Other than that, there are no other changes that are in the new iPhone. You will find the same concepts and ideas in the iPhone 6S that they are putting into the iPhone 7. Then when Apple comes out with a new product, right around the corner, Samsung comes out with another product as well. Just recently, I read that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be coming out in March or April of 2017, according to Trusted Reviews. It surprises me that people continue to camp out at Best Buy or the Apple Store itself to get the latest piece of technology. It seems that consumers today will never be satisfied with the products Apple makes. Apple has enough products as it is, so when will they stop? The demand keeps growing, but eventually the supply will run out.

  12. After reading through your writing I have one question for you. Do you actually use your phone to pay the grocery bill? If you do just know that, that’s awesome and a brilliant idea. Your writing, however, about the iphone 7 is on point though. I agree that the market is blowing up now due to smartphone technology and in all it was a great topic to choose.

  13. Although I don't have an iPhone, I'm starting to wish I did because of some problems that I'm starting to face with my Galaxy. The iPhone 7 is certainly intriguing and I’m thinking about trading my Galaxy in for it. I like how they took out the headphone jack, making it waterproof. A few years ago I had my phone in my pocket when I walked into the lake and it ruined my phone, but I feel like if I did it again with the iPhone 7, it would still work. However, I feel like if they didn’t charge hundreds of dollars for this phone, more people would buy it.

    1. Apple is not only changing the head phone jack to make their new phone water proof, but also for more sales. With the removal of the head phone jack, apple is, in a way, making the old head phones obsolete, allowing apple and other companies to profit. For example, If I had an expensive pair of head phones that require a head phone jack, I will need to buy a new set of nice head phones that are wireless. Although, the Iphone does include a pair of earbuds, they typically do not last long.

  14. I had no idea that people would be waiting outside the stores a day before the Iphone 7 comes out but why do so many people want this new phone if they have to use wireless headphones in order to use headphones for the phone despite it being more water resistant and less damage will happen to it. People would not only have to use money to get the phone but would also have to spend more money on wireless headphones just so they can use headphones on the new Iphone 7. I wouldn't want the Iphone y because I don't have any wireless head phones and those type of headphones are expensive.

  15. Apple is a big company, and they do come out with a bunch of new technology often. But, they keep making the iPhone newer, but with very few changes. That's why I have a Samsung,.. I think it's better because of the different varieties of phones. And to state again, Apple sure makes a lot of technology for us consumers. It seems like that "new is better" but the product is just the same thing with very little changes. Also, isn't it just kind of "weirdly different" to have a phone on a watch when you already have a phone? It seems to me like people want new technology, but it's just the same thing over and over again, being recreated with little to no differences.

  16. iPhone's are pretty great, I think we can all agree on that. Apple products are great, and I'm not trying to dis any of the other brands, but when you come out with a new phone every year, and they always get great sales, then you have to wonder if some time their luck is going to run out. They won't always make the same great products, at some point they are going to make a mistake on the design that people don't like or have even the slightest programming error and it just won't be the same. People aren't always going to want to get the iPhone if it keeps becoming more expensive even if they keep getting better. Cost doesn't always outweigh quality.

  17. Apple will always have customers lining up at the stores for their products, simply because it was made by Apple. This giant company is always finding ways to make our lives easier with a quick way to pay, surf, and game. However, it is interesting that regular people continue to bash the high-costs and inaccessibility of Apple Products, yet, constantly are dishing out money left and right for the “newest version”. I too enjoy my iPhone and all the Apple Products that are floating around my house, but there comes a point where buying the latest technology leads to personal financial troubles. Although, we continue to spend money, there will always be a strong demand for anything Apple.

  18. I find it interesting that the projected sales for this new phone is so high. Most people have already bought one of the older models of the apple iphone and they find that it works perfectly fine and that there is no real reason to update to a new one unless there is an issue with their old one. So the fact that the market prediction for this brand new phone is so high is baffling.

  19. I love my phone quite a bit and it's a IPhone. However the new things apple are doing doesn't make sense to me. The addition of the new wireless headphones and all is cool and it's certainly new, but I feel like having the cords helps me not loose the headphones. Without the cords all you have is the headphones and that could be problematic to some consumers who frequently misplace their items. Also Apple continues to increase the size of their phones at some point will the phone even fit in your jeans pockets and be comfortable? Apple releases a new phone each year and the improvments they're are making I feel aren't "the next big change" therefore I think people aren't getting the phone for the technology but for the fashion statement and the ability to say "I have the new Iphone"!

    1. The changes Apple made to the Iphone 7 include, a new IOS, water resistant, new colors, no headphone jack, "speed improvements", and camera bumps. Is this worth around 800$? Apple seems to make similar changes like this each year and the price continues to increase .

  21. I agree the iphone 7 sales will boost sales for Apple. A lot of people look at the loss of the headphone jack as a downfall; although, I don’t think it will really change much in sales for Apple. This new change is similar to the change of chargers from the iphone 4s to the 5. People adapted, and the iphone continued to sell in great quantities. I would predict a similar adaptation for the iphone 7. In fact, Apple might end up making more money on the sales of the connecting pieces or bluetooth headphones. Though the new iphone 7 is very controversial in terms of sales, people will still buy into the “latest and greatest” technology. I don't see it as a shock that the projected sales are so high.

  22. Although the new iPhone 7 looks more stunning than ever, I am surprised this phone is receiving this much positive response without having a headphone jack. I see this as a problem in my life because I need a headphone jack to hook up to the aux cord, to play music in my car. Do you think many people won't buy the new iPhone because of this issue?

  23. I find it interesting how in our world today I feel like everyone is always pointing out all of the negatives about iPhones while at this time in the iPhone's career, it is at its all time high in sales. It's crazy how one little phone creates so much discussion in this great country of ours. It's fascinating how I'll be sitting next to someone some place and they'll be like, "why doesn't the iPhone 7 have a headphone jack? That's so weird..." and then next week they dropped $700 on the same phone they were complaining about the week before.

  24. I feel apple is staying on top of the latest technology basically to ensure their consumers keep buying their stuff, because they're aren't many new consumers, because all the people that will buy iPhones basically already are, and people who weren't in the past due to economic reasons or others, will probably not switch. But apple still wants to keep their current consumers who are willing to buy the more expensive products every year so they always stay on top of technology.

  25. iPhones have become an integral part of how society functions, as just like the apple watch, are fashion statements and a sign of material wealth. Apple has become the trend setter when it comes to smart phones, whatever they do, the market will follow with. That's why millions people are willing to dough out so much cash to replace a great phone that's only a year old.

  26. Although the new iPhone has disadvantages which may move some of Apple's consumers to Samsung, I believe the new technology that the iPhone 7 offers will keep sales rising and have more products sold. There will be people that don't want to buy the new iPhone because of its feature of having no head jack, so old headphones won't work and will think they need to buy new headphones, but as technology gets more advanced, the total cost of added accessories slowly dimishes. This makes Apple's innovative iPhones more the reason to buy in the current.
