Milwaukee Bucks Arena
If you live in the state of Wisconsin, you are likely aware of the recent debate on whether or not the city of Milwaukee should fund a new Bucks arena, including the relocation of a sewer downtown to pave the way for this new complex. N. 4th Street would become a pedestrian plaza, with connections to the arena, as well as a new entertainment system.
Now, there are two sides of the argument on the topic of this multimillion dollar project -- one side is that it is simply a waste of taxpayers’ money. They have witnessed St. Louis build a fancy new stadium to lure in the Rams in 1995, and now, in 2016, the Rams are headed back home to Los Angeles, leaving taxpayers with a remaining debt of $100 million, and no remaining tenant. Those who are against the building of a new Bucks arena fear that Milwaukee would eventually be left with the same fate.
Others believe that the new Bucks arena would be a great addition to the city of Milwaukee, and personally, I have to side with this argument. Milwaukee already has a lot going for it -- it is positioned right on Lake Michigan, which includes Summerfest -- one of the world’s largest music festivals, the historic Third Ward, the Brewers, and so much more. Ideally, it could be drawing in a much larger tourist population, and become an exemplar place for national events such as NBA and NCAA playoff games, National Championship games, etc -- and the new arena would draw the attention of these organizations while planning locations. Take the city of Indianapolis, for example -- it is by no means a huge city with the reputation of Chicago or New York City, but because of how well planned the city itself is, it draws in crowds of millions every other year for events like Super Bowls and basketball championships at Lucas Oil Stadium, Hinkle Fieldhouse (Butler University), and the Pacers arena, Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Their taxpayers may be paying more for the upkeep of the downtown and all of the new updates that are constantly being made to Indianapolis, but it has well beyond proved its worth with all of the revenue and tourism being brought into the city.
The citizens of Milwaukee must observe the success of cities like Indianapolis and take it as a huge example of what could be here in Wisconsin. The opportunity cost of higher taxes to pay for this arena would be well worth the attention and newfound attraction that Milwaukee would receive. With this new arena, which has been agreed on and will begin to be built in the coming year, Milwaukee could be seeing many more tourists and visitors for basketball-related events in the very near future. For the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this would only mean more money being brought into the city, and would for sure be worth it in the long run.

Milwaukee needs this, yes it will raise taxes, but it will bring in more income for the Milwaukee area. It would create jobs, and hopefully bring more tourists into the area, which stated before, it would raise revenue for the Milwaukee Area. The bucks need their own place just as Green Bay and the Brewers do. Overall, I do believe that we should build the new stadium and get rid of the BMO Bradley Stadium.
ReplyDeleteThere's a reason that not only arenas, but complete areas are being developed around sports teams. Not only are the Bucks trying to do this, but so are the Packers. Yes, it would raise taxes, but it would also increase the revenue within Milwaukee. There would be a bigger draw and more reason to stay and hang out. These types of developments are beneficial to an up and coming city and will do great things for Milwaukee.
ReplyDeleteI think you had very strong facts to back up the reason why you think the arena should be built. Well I was against the thought of building an arena, now I am on the fence, it would be nice if Milwaukee had more tourists and the way to bring in tourists in more attractions. Obviously there is a downside to this because of the cost, but it may be worth it in the long run.
ReplyDeleteIt may bring in more national events and popularity to Milwaukee, like Indianapolis, but remember, that the stadiums where Super Bowls and other events take place, the team is actually decent and worth watching. The bucks are trash. We would be in the same situation as St. Louis. They got a new stadium for their Rams, and the Rams haven't been into the playoffs alone since 2004, and now since their moving, St. Louis, like the article said, is in about 100 million dollars of debt that they can't pay off. Bucks made playoffs last season, but 6th seed and they lost in the first game. The stadium would be a waste of money and shouldn't be built.
ReplyDeleteMilwaukee is already doing pretty great with it’s tourism. As you stated, we have summerfest and many other parties and events that occur every month. So my point is what do we need this huge stadium for? The groups that go to Summerfest will never change since it’s a music festival and everyone likes to hear their favorite songs. Milwaukee will always gain from that. But a new Arena? That will not only require a ton of extra cash to build, but a ton of extra to maintain and hire new workers. All of this tax money could be going to something more useful, like the huge plans to change the Highway systems. While yes, it will bring more people to Milwaukee, it most likely will not help as much as we think it will.
ReplyDeleteThere is no reason for a new stadium. As seen with Miller Park, tax increased 0.1% which doesn’t seem like much but adds up over time. We are still paying that and will be until 2018-2020. There aren’t enough fans supporting the Bucks because the program isn’t strong enough. Maybe in a couple years when the Bucks get a better fan base and strengthen their program.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard this story of a new arena being built, I was completely against it. It is an expensive job and will raise taxes. If I was a tax payer, I would not like my money going to a new stadium, I would want the money to be used in a better way. But after reading this post, and thinking about the money and people it would bring in, I now am starting to believe that this might not be such a bad idea. If tourism increases, money increases. This would benefit Milwaukee, and although it would be expensive, it would, like Ellie said, be worth it in the long run.
ReplyDeleteYes the new arena would bring in great tourism and increased attraction around Milwaukee, but many taxpayers can not afford to have that great of a raise in their taxes. The new arena would be a great attraction and bring in better revenue but i'm just not sure if pros fully outway the cons.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the thought that we should build a new arena, because we could hold concerts there, businesses around the arena would make more money when people leave and join the event taking place that night. The bucks aren't so good right now and never have been, and maybe a new arena would make them better. Going along with their moto “own the future”. Plus it looks cool, and people would like to see the change.
ReplyDeleteWith the addition to the new Bucks Arena, not only will more jobs open up for those residing in Milwaukee, but more tourists will visit the city as well. It’s important for Milwaukee to keep the city urban and with the addition of the arena, this is possible. In addition, the arena could not only host the Bucks, but many other large events that appeal to the majority, not just Bucks fans. Even though, taxpayers may seem upset now with the rise in tax payments, in the long run I think the majority will be grateful for the city’s upgrade since it will bring in more revenue for the city’s tourism.
ReplyDeleteMilwaukee could definitely use a new arena. It is understood that it would raise taxes, but it would also rake in income. It would provide hundreds of jobs within the new plaza section, and would without a doubt attract tourists which ultimately would increase revenue. All in all, there aren't many negatives to the development of this new arena, as the positives heavily out weigh them.
ReplyDeleteBuilding this new arena is a good idea and the city should go through with it, even though it would bring taxes up. It's not like just an arena is being built, they are developing that area as a whole so it is nicer and has more attractions. This new arena would also host much more events than just bucks games. Some examples would be concerts or NCAA Tournament games. With all these new landscapes and attractions, there will be bigger crowds which means more money. So even though this new arena would raise taxes, overall it's worth it to build.
ReplyDeleteYes it would cost a lot of money to build a new arena, but a new arena would bring in more tourists for the city. Personally I want them to build a new arena because I like the Bucks and if they did end up getting moved to another state, I feel like Milwaukee would lose a lot of tourists. Also with Milwaukee not being the biggest and most entertaining city, losing the Bucks would make Milwaukee even less entertaining so a new arena would be worth it in the long run.
ReplyDeleteWhile it is true that the arena will bring many tourists and revenue, it isn't fair to all the people to be paying taxes to help build the arena. Some people won't ever go to a Bucks game in their lifetime let alone any other event in there. The stadium can greatly benefit the city as well as the state as a whole, but not every individual living in it.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe the new Bucks arena should be built. Although it would bring in more revenue and tourists to the Milwaukee area, we have other areas we can focus tax payer's money on that would be more beneficial such as finishing all the construction on the roads and bridges. The Bucks have a losing record and odds are we would end up in a situation similar to St. Louis. They were going to relocate anyway if they did not have their new stadium so it is likely they will relocate in the future. I enjoy watching basketball and the Bucks, I just feel the money is better spent elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteYou had nice evidence to both sides of the story. I never really thought about it until now. I agree with how it might be unfair to the people who don't get to choose whether or not their taxes will pay, but I mostly agree on how this would help Milwaukee. The Bucks are popular, and will bring a lot of attention. So their new stadium would too in tourist attractions and making more money. I think it's a good idea build it, even if it is or isn't a mistake looking forward.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree with the fact that a possible new Bucks arena will bring in money and publicity to Milwaukee, I don’t agree with the idea peoples taxes going towards it. Citizens don’t pay taxes to the city to pay for a new novelty item for Milwaukee, they pay them to maintain our community, building new buildings for well developed companies, finish the countless atrocities of road construction, etc. The Bucks arena is already very nice, there’s no point in spending thousands dollars on a new one with taxpayers money that probably don’t even cheer for the bucks.
ReplyDeleteI thought you did a great job giving evidence for both sides of this debate. At first, I was against this idea because the last thing Milwaukee needs is to add to the debt. As I read more of your post, I realized that building this arena will bring in more revenue for the city. Other businesses around the new Bucks arena will grow when tourists spend their money there. Numerous jobs will also be created from opening this arena which is very beneficial to the city. I wonder how much Milwaukee’s revenue will increase after a year of the grand opening. Also, it will be interesting to see what they use the old Bucks arena for in the future. Great article!
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job presenting both sides, but I believe that the new arena should be built even though taxes would rise. The arena itself will provide for numerous events outside of Bucks games, for concerts and make an attraction in the city of Milwaukee. Also, there will be housing and businesses built around it also, so jobs and living space will be increased in the city. All of that is worth paying a little more on your taxes, if it means someone else is getting a job or a home. Since revenue will be brought to the city because of this, it is worth it. The Bucks can't pay for the whole thing alone because they are a small market team, so this will not only help the city, but the new arena would bring more excitement to the team. I believe the Bucks should build a new arena district in Milwaukee.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with building a new Bucks arena, mainly because taxes should be going into something we need, not something we want. We need new roads, we need kids in school. We don’t need to waste money on something people want, when they already have. I do agree that it would be a nice add on to Milwaukee, but it's honestly not something the bucks really need.
ReplyDeleteThe new arena would bring a lot of money and publicity in for the Bucks and Milwaukee itself, but I do not think it's worth building the new arena using tax payer's money. There isn't anything wrong with the arena that's there now and it can already handle anything from concerts to basketball and hockey games. PLUS it's already been there for long time so it's in a way kind of special to Milwaukee. You did a great job on this post by providing support and evidence on both sides of the debate.

ReplyDeleteI think that those opposed to building the arena are blinded by the taxes that would be given and they can't see the benefits of it. If this money was charged across Wisconsin it would not amount to much and there's more to building this area than just simply the Bucks such as mentioned before. The arena extends further than NBA basketball by bringing people to a new part of Milwaukee which is why it should be built.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you in the fact that the new stadium will bring in a lot more tourists into Milwuakee, but the only way that would happen for sure is if the Bucks suddenly become successful. The stadium would be great for hosting NCAA tournaments and that would bring in a substantial amount of revenue, but that would only work if we know as a city for sure that tournaments would be hosted there. There are too many unknowns at this time to say that the new stadium will be successful and help the city bring in more money.
ReplyDeleteAt first I have always thought that the new Bucks arena wouldn’t really benefit the city as a whole. I personally am not a basketball fan therefore I see no use, however if there were NBA and NCAA championships held at this new area it could pay for itself a lot fast than anyone think. As long as the Bucks plan to stay in Milwaukee, and this new arena can be used for more than just basketball: it will be worth it if it does get built only if we can be guaranteed those huge games will be played in Milwaukee. If not, the money should be used to pay for roads and schools, taxes are high enough.

ReplyDeleteI am still somewhat skeptical about the building of the Bucks building a new arena with taxpayers money because while the new arena will produce a revenue the question is how much. Yes, the bucks will be playing there; bringing in money for each game but the BMO Harris Bradley Center will still be there to hold concerts and be the home of the Admirals. That right there guarantees that the new arena won't make as much as a profit as another just because not as many events will be hosted there. Not to mention the fact that the bucks aren’t doing so well right now so the urge for people to go see them play isn’t that large. There is positives to building the new arena though, for example; many jobs will be created for the building and working in the arena ,also, businesses that are located near the arena will thrive. Just like building anything new with taxpayers dollars you are going to be taking a risk and while some people will side with the decision some won't.
I think that both sides are the argument are valid, but I would say that Milwaukee could use that money in other ways. The Bradley Center is very versatile and has been used for a long time to accommodate to the various events that it has hosted. Therefore, the Bucks should continue playing there and the money that they are spending on the new stadium could be used to build something Milwaukee doesn’t already have, such as an aquarium.
ReplyDeleteThe Bucks need a new stadium desperately. The old Bradley Center has served the Bucks and the men who played in it well, but it needs to be replaced. People in Milwaukee have clearly shown an interest in the Bucks and we should do everything in our power to keep them in Milwaukee. Considering that they are the last professional sports team in Milwaukee besides the Brewers, and that the Marquette games can draw a large audience, it would only make sense to build a new facility. Furthermore the commitment to making sports a priority in Milwaukee could draw another pro-series league to bring a team to us. In the long run it would pay off nicely to have a new stadium build, so therefore the tax dollars would be worth it.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I'm still against it. There's plenty of other things to draw people to Milwaukee. While it MIGHT bring more tourists to the city, this is not a certainty. If things don't go according to plan, this arena will put the city into a huge amount of debt. I simply don't think taxpayer money should be invested in what is pretty much a gamble. So, again, while it MIGHT be beneficial to the city, I'm not convinced it's worth the risk at the present moment.
ReplyDeleteI agree that building a new Bucks arena would be very good for not just Milwaukee, but all of the surrounding suburbs, and maybe even the entire state of Wisconsin. Yes, a good chunk of the money needed to make the arena would come out of the pockets of taxpayers, but new things always get the attention of the people, and many would flock to the new arena. Some comment on the fact that we already have the Bradley center for the bucks, which is true, but if the Bucks had their own arena, then the Bradley Center could be put to use for other venues. Overall I agree with you on how the new Bucks arena would be a good addition to Milwaukee, and I think you explained why you feel so very well.

ReplyDeleteI loved your first paragraph giving specific examples of how the Rams went through a similar situation. But I respectfully disagree with your opinion. The Bradley Center has been in Milwaukee for almost two decades now, and I can't spot one thing wrong with the place. It holds 19,000 people which is average for a NBA stadium. Currently the Bucks can't draw half of that number. Building a new stadium will result in no "change", the Bradley center is just as capable as this new stadium. It can hold concerts, basketball games, hockey games, and other entertainment events just as well as the new stadium. The Bradley Center has no business being build, If the two owners and Herb Cole want to build it, then fine, just don't put it on the taxpayers to build something that we already have.

I believe that Milwaukee should indeed build this new stadium for the possibilities that it could bring to Milwaukee will indeed be worth paying the slightly raised taxes in order to pay for the new establishment. If Milwaukee does indeed decide to build this new arena it could make this city more popular and overall bring in more money for the city to build such things as roads and repairs as well as education in areas such as schools.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree, that the new arena will bring in more people from all over but, later on when people are constantly going, there will be fewer people coming in becasue they were just seeing how the arena turned out. The reason behind it is, this year the bucks by themselves aren't bringing any fans in, because of the constant loosing. From 2015 to 2016 we are ranked 26 out of 30 teams and the amount of people that show up. are getting lower and lower. Now that there is this new stadium the prices are going up and tickets, and Milwaukee taxes are rising, no one is going to the games as much anymore. I don't think that stadium should be built because I wonder if we build this arena, will more people come to the game just because of the arena? or if and when the bucks do play better will people start showing up?

Without building the arena the bucks would have most likely would have left the state and move somewhere else. And with the buck leaving the state would have a lost a huge market. And by building the arena the state is going to gain a huge amount of money from all things that can be done with it. And overall I think that they should build the arena and you did a good job explaining that

It would be a new place that Milwaukee would be known for, a beautiful add on to the already nice Milwaukee area, and I like how you used opportunity cost as an example to argue it would be a great addition.
ReplyDeleteEllie, I completely agree with your stance on the new Bucks Arena. In addition to bringing in more tourists to the city and creating revenue, whenever visiting players play at the stadium, they have to pay taxes to the state of Wisconsin. This will also help to pay for the stadium, but without the new stadium, the state of Wisconsin would lose all of this potential revenue making the stadium a good idea economically in the long run. In addition, I would like to say that I liked how you made the point of the counter argument as in the stadium is a waste in tax payer money, because when you successfully rebutted this, it made your argument stronger.

The idea of adding more entertainment centers around the arena is also a great way to bring in revenue in order to pay for the arena itself.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, building the Bucks a new area will in the end outweigh the price of building it. More tourists will come for the attraction meaning that they will have to most likely stay near by bringing business to hotels plus these people will also have to eat in the area as well. Since tourists will most likely get around on foot they will see all the little shops and such and might find themselves buying goods. So I believe that the small business owners of Milwaukee would most likely agree with you as well.
ReplyDeleteI think the Bucks new arena will be a great thing for Milwaukee. One, because it will bring in a lot of money. Two, it will also keep our basketball team with us. Three, If we didn't approve the new arena they would most likely be moved and then Wisconsin wouldn't have a Basketball team in the NBA anymore. Finally if the Bucks were to leave we would probably have lost a huge market and overall you did a great job explaining why we need the new arena.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with Ellie’s statement saying that the building of the new Bucks arena will be a great addition to the city of Milwaukee. She explains that the new arena will draw in more tourists to the area and that is correct. The stadium will draw more attention to the city and not only benefit the Bucks fans who will attend further games, but also benefit surrounding bars, restaurants, and other pre/postgame common activities. Although the stadium will raise taxes in the area, the arena will pay itself off as people will be more interested in viewing the stadium. Along with that, there should be no worry that the Bucks will move considering they agreed to stay if a new stadium was built, and with that, the Bucks will hopefully look to be a better team in the NBA as they improve skill and work ethic in the new practice and playing environment.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am not a huge sports fan--I would have to agree that building this new arena just because of the tourist attractions. Usually, when people travel somewhere else for an event, they are likely to stay at least a day or two more. In this day or two, the tourists can see the other great sites that Milwaukee has to offer. For example, the Milwaukee Art Museum draws in people of all ages every day. Another option is to go down to the historic Third Ward--where one could see plays and go shopping. I think you did a nice job explaining all of the good that goes into building this new arena--while it outweighed the negative possibilities in order to firmly state which side of the fence you are on.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree that the Bucks should build a new arena, the Bradley center has been festering in Milwaukee for over 2 decades with little maintenance done. The need for the new arena is a very heavily debated topic and people who disagree, and would rather just keep the Bradley Center don’t understand that is not only for the Bucks but rather the whole City/State. With the NBA threatening moving the team without a new arena the Bucks would be gone, leaving a major decrease in tax collection of every player that would plays in the state has to pay. With the decrease in tax money many business would eventually leave and the state would fold into the gutter. Furthermore the payment for the new arena would only cost $1.25 every year, that is pocket change for most people and can easily be paid for by anyone. I agree with you that the Bucks should build the new arena because the potential economic value of the new arena is too great to pass up.

The city of Milwaukee already has a solid reputation due to other events they hold annually such as Summerfest and the fact the city is on the lake itself, and the addition of a new sports arena would only benefit the city more. In addition it would not only just be for the Bucks it could hold other events. With this new arena it would create more jobs and cause more excitement for the Bucks, and benefit the city of Milwaukee as a whole.

I 100% understand why people are against the idea of building a new arena due to the fact that the bucks aren’t very good, but there are benefits that go along with this change. I personally believe that the Bucks don’t deserve a new stadium, but the city of Milwaukee deserves more tourists and more money. Building a new stadium might not add as much to the city as Indianapolis did, but it will add more character and Wisconsinites will take more pride into Milwaukee. In the end it will be worth it to raise taxes and make this new bucks arena.

And, with out the new arena the bucks may move states, that will cause a lose of income from them.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with this in saying that the bucks could use a new arena and how it could bring in people for the basketball games and then when the basketball is over they can take a look around Milwaukee and see all of the sites like the lake front. Yes the tax payers would be in debt for a while for the funding of the new arena but in the end, it would get payed off and they have a fancy arena.
ReplyDeleteBefore reading this article, I was most definitely against a new bucks arena. The reasoning being that I don’t like basketball very much and I have only gone to the current arena twice in my life. However after reading this article I am reconsidering my stance on this topic. A new arena could mean more attention brought to the state. As a result of bringing more attention to the state we will get more visitors and eventually make all our money back and then some. Even Though it is a possibility that we will get revenue there is still a chance that we could stay in debt like St. Louis. Therefore, I don’t know if I am for or against the new bucks arena.
ReplyDeleteI do have concerns about the Bucks stadium being in debt because of the amount of wins they have this season. They are the 3rd to last team ranked in the entire eastern conference, although individual players such as forward Giannis, shooting guard Khris Middleton,Center Greg Monroe and returning forward Jabari Parker have outstanding games day in and day out but but it’s just not consistent enough. But on the other hand having the arena may give the bucks a little more drive like the 2014-2015 season to make it to the playoffs because they may feel they owe it to their community to give back what we’ve giving them. Good job with comparison with other teams such as the Ram and the Pacers and giving putting the amount of tourist attraction to the new arena, but overall I do feel the stadium should be built and is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I thought that your post was insightful and well-written. I thought that you incorporated both sides of the argument well, until finally landing on a side of your own. I think it would have been nice if you would have included more economic terminology, like how it would effect the unemployment rate and gross domestic product of Milwaukee. Also, I think that some data and graphs would have added to your post. Likely, the already low unemployment rate in Milwaukee would drop, as more workers would be needed to build the stadium, and once the stadium is built, more people would be employed to work at the stadium. Also, you could have talked about the demand of Buck's tickets before and after the stadium is built. Overall, I thought your post was well-written and insightful, and I too cannot wait until the stadium is built.
ReplyDeleteI thought the direction you took in this piece was overall interesting and quite insightful. While a majority of people only look at the positive/negative effects it could have on the fans and the city, not many people are thinking about earlier examples of sports teams in similar situations. As an avid Bucks fan myself, I would be torn if the Bucks left Milwaukee, so I think optimistically. Based on what we have seen from previous franchises, it could go either way, whether the Bucks do indeed make Milwaukee there long term home or if they will head off to another big city, maybe something like Las Vegas which currently does not host any major sports teams. Another opinionated idea is that the Bucks need to consistently be a solid team year in and year out in order for the fans and the league to both agree that Milwaukee is the right place. In the near future we will all be tax payers, so it is worth a thought to how great of an idea this is when our generation will be the one taking a brunt of the cost.

This has been a pressing issue among taxpayers and I'm glad you wrote about it. It would be a great addition to the City of Milwaukee and lead to many opportunities for concerts or other festivals with the entertainment plaza. Also, there would be a large addition of jobs for construction and upkeep of the plaza and arena, boosting the local economy.
ReplyDeleteI thought that this post was used very good word choice and was extremely interesting. I happen to believe that a new stadium would have an amazing impact on the city of Milwaukee. Not to mention, that the Bucks franchise is on the rise compared to recent years and the new stadium would rejuvenate the fan base into spending more money to see the Bucks play. Additionally, the money would be affecting consumers minimally on an individual basis as the money would be diversified throughout many people. Because the Bucks franchise is on the rise, they stand to make profits in the long run due to this new stadium.

This post was a good choice considering it's happening right now and is currently and interesting topic to talk about. I thought you did a good job talking about the both sides stating that it would be a great addition to the city of Milwaukee. While also talking about the other side by being a waste of taxpayers money on which they could be spending differently. Overall this was a great post and I think it is going to be an tremendous impact to the city of Milwaukee. To not only the fans but also to the city and economy.
ReplyDeleteAlthough BMO Harris Bradley center is nice and can hold a decent amount of people in it, I agree with you. A new Bucks arena should be built to increase the tourism and attract people to further help gain money. Not only would it attract people and tourists but it would further increase jobs and make Milwaukee more popular to it's name along with the brewers and Summerfest like you said. Overall you had good evidence for both sides and had me questioning both but I truly agree with you that the new Bucks arena will be benefiting Milwaukee and the people involved and around Milwaukee.

It could also attract different sporting events which would benefit the cities economy. I think this post is well written and I like how you spoke from both sides of the argument and not just about your opinion on the new stadium being built.
ReplyDeleteI've always been for the addition of the new Bucks Arena. Often times people just hear it would be for basketball, but it's a key aspect to the entertainment industry in the Milwaukee Metro Area. Also, people have to remember that their tax money is going to use because everyone can use this arena too. Lastly, Milwaukee is an upcoming city. Many new additions are being made and the Bucks Arena is no exception. So I agree with your statement, and I am for building the new Bucks Arena using the tax payers money.
ReplyDeleteOne thing fans lack in is the other side that goes into the Bucks Arena. The actual cost would be higher taxes, and for some this may be a breaking point. While this would attract new people for concerts and entertainment, the outcome can result result negatively. There are people who will be paying for something they will not have any use for, so why should they have to suffer for the increase in taxes? Knowing this there can be donations to the new arena. While there were good points and I would love a new Bucks Arena, I think the way to get this money should be found in a different way.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement that the Bucks should build a new arena. It will ultimately make more money for the city of Milwaukee. Yes it will cost tax payers initially but in the long run it will do more good than harm. The new arena will be so much more than just a basketball stadium, it will have new restaurants, be a bigger place for concerts and other types of entertainment, and also bring more national level sporting events here. If the new stadium doesn't happen at all the Bucks will leave Milwaukee and so will all the great amounts of tax money the players have to pay to the city will be gone. So ultimately we will be losing money, so the opportunity cost is better to get the Stadium than not.

The advantages to the new proposed Bucks stadium outweighs the disadvantages in my opinion. The additional benefits of restaurants, retail spaces and other businesses entering the area would make sure that it is an arena that can be used year-round, regardless if the Bucks are in season. Also, partnerships could be made with local high schools or colleges for usage of the space during times such as the summer. Disadvantages would include taxing citizens, but I believe that people cannot just look at St. Louis, but at the other places in which building a new stadium brought success. St. Louis was drawing the Rams from LA, so it is as if they are currently returning "home". Milwaukee has always been the Bucks home, and they have a loyal fan base here, hopefully bringing only success to the court.
