ObamaCare is nothing but a positive factor in the health world if everyone agreed on to let it be. We are influenced as teens by our parents every day, never really searching into the background or facts on ObamaCare. Therefore we are given the mindset, thinking it’s a positive to the world or a negative. Democrats and Republicans it seems will never be willing to agree on the same thing, will they ever? This is one factor that I believe will never fully be agreed upon, health care is different for everyone people that support ObamaCare think the benefits are incredible but the ones who don’t agree with the terms say that ObamaCare is a harmful source. But what fully is ObamaCare?
ObamaCare is a national health care plan that is aimed in reforming the American health care systems. It can be inferred that the main focus of this health care is to provide Americans with affordable health care while also improving, and keeping the healthcare insurance at a decent price as well. The official name was The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, but President Obama signed the law into act as it was presented. ObamaCare was decade’s worth of work that was just now put into action, it originally started after Romney Care which ObamaCare was after, these ideas were thrown from both sides of the isles.
Despite the negative feedback of ObamaCare there are many positive aspects, one being tens of millions that are uninsured will get access to affordable quality health insurance. CHIP (Children Health care Program) will expand to cover 9 million children. Another important fact is young adults will be able to stay on their parents plan until the age of 26, and you will not be dropped if you are sick.
Not only are there many more positives to having this care, but there are negatives. The insurance yes covers sick people, but this causes the cost of insurance to increase. Taxes are something I don’t think anyone enjoys but with having a healthcare cover so much it is only necessary to have the cost of taxes increase to be able to provide for everyone. The more taxes increase it only makes sense for there to be even more employers out in the labor field.

(Explaining that pros and cons of Obamacare and a better understanding)
No matter which information we hear more of good or bad, ObamaCare no matter who is a positive impact, not all will agree because we are all entitled to our own opinion. We believe in what we hear right away which is the problem with American now a day without going to take the time and research things. We need change and this is exactly a set in the right direction.

I can only help but make connections between the United States' healthcare and Canada's healthcare. It seems that our government is moving toward a system that Canada has been using for awhile now: to make citizens pay taxes in order to receive healthcare for the entire population. It will be interesting to see where Obamacare takes us in the future, whether it will benefit or damage it as a whole
ReplyDeleteI see the value in Obamacare and the many benefits that could come from it but I also see some huge downsides. There has been speculation all over the news regarding how Obama originally said people could keep the insurance coverage they already have if that is working for them, however, insurance providers are basically being forced to only provide Obamacare as an option. Why should people give up the insurance coverage they already have if that is working for them? They worked for that coverage and now it is being taken away and replaced by coverage that is even more expensive with less coverage. This may not be the case for everyone but it is one circumstance that has been talked about numerous times. I am all for providing healthcare to everyone but is it really fair to take away insurance plans that people have worked for?
ReplyDeleteWhile I do see the point in Obamacare, and there are both pros and cons, I feel as though people should have choice. I think Obamacare should be provided for anyone that wants it at an affordable price, however if someone doesn't want healthcare they shouldn't be forced to pay for it. Overall, I think we are taking a step in the positive direction though
ReplyDeleteSorry but Obama care is the worst thing that could happen for America. Act will limit how much health insurance premiums can vary based on age. Health insurers will be restricted to charging older people no more than three times higher premiums than they charge younger people. This is bad news for the young. When you are paying taxes a couple years from now would you want to be paying for a person trip to the hospital because a surgery or a broken arm? Just think about that how you would feel wasting your money of someone you don’t even know.
ReplyDeleteI think it is wonderful that ObamaCare has provided health care for those who can afford it. However, I don't think it's positive that the government is has taken away money that middle and upper class citizens have worked hard for. There are so many organization that provide free health care to families that can't afford it. Why doesn't the government take government spending and invest in groups like this? That way it doesn't take away from the income that many citizens have worked hard to make and would rather not loose on a significant increase on government taxes.
ReplyDeleteAs Olivia mentioned, there has been huge controversy recently over cancellation notices to those who have old healthcare plans. Just last Tuesday, November 5th, Obama gave an apology on an interview with NBC News to those people who were told they would be able to keep their healthcare but got cancellation notices regardless. The President stated, "Obviously, we didn't do a good enough job in terms of how we crafted the law. And, you know, that's something that I regret." For the major proponent of this bill to be admitting that it is flawed is a very serious concern. However, I think one of the biggest problems in partisan debates is that politicians do not see the bill as a malleable. Republicans want it straight up burned, and Democrats want it set in stone. What we need to do is pass it, then adapt it in response to the results. Almost every other developed country in the world has universal healthcare, but their programs took years to develop and perfect. We can't expect to get it right on our first try.
ReplyDeleteObama care has its pros and cons but I think that we should have a choice and not to be forced to pay for it. Like Olivia was saying, if we have a insurance coverage thats working for us now why should we have to pay for Obamacare?
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you connected it with the fact that us High school students only hear things from our parents. That causes us to have the same bias as them when we really have no idea what it even is. I also liked how you explained in depth about what Obama Care really was.

ReplyDeleteI don't learn jack squat from my parents in regards to politics. Obama is a Marxist piece of garbage that only belongs in the cesspool of Chicago. Forcing someone to conform to a certain health insurance is called communism, and draining billions of dollars from the working man and spreading it among the poor is called socialism.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't exactly agree with everything you said and no one is being "forced" to change to Obama Care. The people that will really get hurt here are the insurace companies, they now have competition and can't get away with charging such high rates. Weather or not this plan actually works remains to be seen but there really isn't much the average person can lose in giving it a shot. If this plan turns out to be a disaster congress will have legal grounds to get rid of it and we will be right back where we started, but nothing ventured equals nothing gained.
DeleteIt's funny how most of our responds are from the parents while we don't know much of the health care. In fact all I hear about the health care is good and bad things mostly bad. I am guessing people say its bad because they might not like the president and won't listen. But this is a matter of opinion to choice if you like it or not.
ReplyDeletePersonally i come from a country with one of the worlds best healthcare. We pay approximately 50-60% taxes, and therefore the healthcare is free and available for everyone. I believe everybody deserves the access to healthcare, and that obamacare is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteObamaCare can, most definitely, play a negative toll on taxpayers and businesses. Although it is a huge controversy, in general, ObamaCare can have a good effect on the nation. It shows that America is willing to provide some sort of equality for all, especially for those who can't afford health care and live lower quality lives. Being the country known for its freedom, its people shouldn’t live in fear especially for their health, and that’s why ObamaCare should be taken more gently. Though many abuse this opportunity, America can eventually find ways to make ObamaCare work more efficiently to ease minds.
ReplyDeleteAs you had stated, teenagers are influenced by their parents and maybe even grandparents views on the the situation, that they feel like they are informed enough by what they are saying, which may be incorrect, to actually look up the actual benefits and risk factors to ObamaCare. Despite the tax increases that are included in the idea of ObamaCare, there are more available places in the job force, which could cause the unemployment rate to decrease.
ReplyDeleteI love how you talked about the fact that we are all influenced by others opinions and that's, in part, where we create our own opinion as well, so this is a good point saying that maybe ObamaCare isn't what we think it is based on what we have heard from others. I do think it is great that it is benefiting so many Americans, but the tax increase it causes for others seems a little unjust. It is almost as if we are striving for this equality, which is good in some aspects but bad in others. We talked in class about how if everyone is given the same amount of wealth/income no matter the work or jobs they have, how will an economy ever grow of compete? That's just something to think about. There will always be people that agree and disagree with anything in this world, so dealing with ObamaCare the best we can is all we are able to do.
ReplyDeleteI can’t decide whether I think that ObamaCare is more of a positive or a negative. I think it’s great that we are trying to make health care more affordable for all people, and that we are trying to give more people health care, but the fact that taxes are increasing might be too much of a negative. But who knows, it could be very beneficial, so we’ll have to wait to see if time shows us whether or not this new program is good or bad for America.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good point that we all too often just believe what we hear and don’t look at the facts. No one will ever completely agree on anything but I think it is good to look at the pros and cons especially when it comes to Obama Care. People should look at the overall effects not just what affect them personally.
ReplyDeleteI am a little bias because I'd like to pursue a career in medicine; however, I still don't think this law was constructed the most efficient way. I understand that we are only trying to help those of the poor, or those that can't afford healthcare, but similar to welfare, it just gets taken advantage of. People become careless and soon take ObamaCare for granted. Ultimately, I feel like the idea is there, it just needs to be reconstructed.
ReplyDeleteI like that you said so many people rely on their parents for an opinion on things like this. I don't think that this is the only issue that has this problem as well. It's tough to say whether it is a good idea or not, because there are countries like Denmark which Sebastian mentioned who find success with it, but at the same time that is a much smaller country. So whether or not it works will just be up to the net few years as it becomes implemented.
ReplyDeleteI have researched the ObamaCare law in different classes and still am not sure which side I am on. I like that you mentioned how it could be a positive factor if everyone agreed on the same thing. However, I believe that the cost still outweighs the benefits, but it would be nice to see everyone being able to afford healthcare
ReplyDeletei feel that obamacare is an abomination. medical rates are going up for the hardworking middle class, so bums can get healthcare. if you are able to earn more money then you should be able to afford better healthcare, not getting the same as the other guy while paying much more. obamacare is just another way for the government to try to control more people and make them dependent on the government, its unconstitutional and its socialist. its wrong to make someone else pay for a bums healthcare, thats what charitable and church organizations are for, its not up to the government to decide who gets what.
ReplyDeleteIve done a little bit of research on ObamaCare and such but I really don't know I feel about it because of the fact that it just has its pro's and it has its con's. However I really just don't like the fact of the matter knowing that ObamaCare was basically the reason for the government shut down. President Obama may be over stepping the line on the things that he wants done in this country but he was voted in for 2 terms so he has to know a little bit of what he's talking about. But I like how you put the sides of ObamaCare in here because it makes it not as bias because some people really just are on the fence on what they think about it.
ReplyDeleteObamaCare is probably one of the most controversial topics relating to the government today. It's great how you were unbiased in stating both of the pro's and con's of the situation. However, I believe that ObamaCare's negatives far outweigh the positives. It takes more money from the hardworking people's paychecks, and those hardworking people more than likely will not receive any benefits from it; it'll only benefit the people who cant afford any health care in the first place. But the fact that the President and all the people in the government below him have come up with this plan means that it must be doing something positive for the majority of citizens.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that there are a few things that I would have to disagree with you on. I think that to openly state that this program is obviously a positive thing is very controversial. I believe that your argument would have more validity if the sources used weren't only from obamacarefacts.com. Obviously for the lower class this program is going to benefit them because it will provide them coverage. To say though that is a positive thing for the middle and wealthier classes I think is not necessarily true for everyone. This program could hurt many American homes by forcing them to pay higher taxes and receive less coverage. I think you have some really great key points but to take such a definitive side I feel does not give this issue justice.
ReplyDeleteObamacare is a law. That is a fact. There is no changing that, at least during this presidency. Because of the slow start, with the website errors, no one really knows what Obamacare is going to be like. Also, no time has passed yet to tell if it is good or bad. We should all just be supportive of our President for now, because fighting isn’t going to solve anything.
ReplyDeleteAlthough many people may bicker upon the details of Obamacare, the fact is that we really haven't seen much of it yet. While it is possible that the system is unsuited for America, there is also a chance that it would work (As seen in other countries with a similar healthcare system). Aside from that, we really don't know how it would affect the economy. Both political parties have hired economists to analyze the same data yet they reach stunningly different results. At this point, only time will tell if Obamacare is considered a boon or a curse in future years.
ReplyDeleteObamacare or Obama doesn't care we should call it. Yes Obamacare helps the unfortunate but that is why states have their own health care system like Badger care that is affordable. Obamacare is a waste of money when we could be using it to save our countries economy. If we got rid of Obamacare we could use the money for new ways to save the environment for other generations. Instead of saving people, we could let them fade away and make the world population do down instead of going up.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this, I'm still not sure what side I'm on. Like people have said before, I've researched this topic in many classes and I'm still not sure if this law is beneficial or horrible for the country. I like that you mentioned positive contributions, for example, bringing health insurance to children all around the country. I think that this is a great thing, but I'm not sure that it's worth it if taxes are going to increase. This definitely opened up my eyes, but like said before, I'm not sure if it's good or bad.
ReplyDeleteAll I ever really heard about ObamaCare was that it was bad. I always used to hear things about it without really looking into what it actually was. After reading this article I found some things that are really positive about ObamaCare. It can cover many people who can't afford healthcare which makes for a very healthy America. It is also good to know that over 9 million children will also get the care they need. The ObamaCare really does help people that need it, and after looking at all the positive things I think that we just need to see more of it in the future.
ReplyDeleteI respect, but am also slightly irritated that you chose such a controversial topic. Not because of the nature of the topics, but simply because of all the senseless arguing that results from even the slightest whisper of something political. However, you did do a good job of representing both sides and making an economic connection to a controversial issue.
ReplyDeleteI have always thought that ObamaCare would have a positive impact on the country. Many people I have heard say that they disagree and how horrible it is, but it really is helping to make a change for the better. It has many more benefits than before. I agree there is a down side to all of this, though. The fact that we cover more people for more sicknesses increases the taxes of people which isn't very good. I really liked how you showed how ObamaCare really is changing things and pointed things out biased people would have never noticed.
