Unemployment in Simple Terms

Unemployment in Simple Terms

Have you ever gotten frustrated while on a call about being told to push certain numbers to get to a specific representative? You accidentally pressed the wrong number and you had to start the call all over again, what could be worse? Instead of speaking to an actual person in the first place, they have you go through a five-minute process just to get to the one representative you need to speak to. When you think about it, there are so many companies in the world which they would have to hire a lot of people to pick up each individual call. Instead of employing a lot of workers, they buy robots or recordings to start taking the calls from each customer. Since jobs are now being replaced by technology and recordings, it is harder to find a job. It’s now more difficult to find a job which will then require more perseverance and some mental techniques to land a job.
For people who are unemployed, finding a job is a must. If robots and recorded voices are replacing what humans used to do, how can they find a job? Unemployment won’t continue to go down unless they start making available jobs within the company itself. If people keep on getting denied a job they will eventually become discouraged workers. They will give up on ever getting a job and even looking for available positions, they’re just done. If these people continue down this kind of path, they will have no faith in putting in hard work and continuing to search for work. This will then cause the unemployment rate to go up because there will be more citizens not in the work force. As shown on the graph, unemployment has gone down dramatically since 2009. This means that there are less discouraged workers out in the community.

To get people motivated to get a job, they need to have a picture of some kind of  reward in the end. Even if it is as simple as a telemarketing job or fast food, they're still apart of the employed ratio. They will then be involved in the employment ratio and contribute to our economy.  When people have a steady job and produce products or services, it means that our economy is most likely strong as long as there is a balance of our imports and exports. We are able to calculate or total value of goods and services produced by the Real GDP which occurs annually. Overall, as long as people continue to put in the effort and strive for a better future, the unemployment rate will be steady or continue to go down. Having a good future doesn't come easy, you have to put in work to contain greatness.

  1. I was surprised that in 2009, the unemployment rate was so high. I know it’s going down but I agree with you in that until people start making job availability rates higher, we won’t have jobs. I feel like people are working too hard just trying to find jobs and that is causing people to become discouraged and slowly stop trying to find them which causes them to not be able to provide for themselves and their families.

  3. I agree that the employment rate is high, but as the years go by the unemployment rate is steadily decreasing. If you look at foreign countries like Spain and Greece, their unemployment rate is very high, Spain's rate is 26.3% and Greece's is 27.9%. I think where the united states are today, we are doing a good job finding people jobs.

  4. While we do have a fairly large amount of people unemployed in our country, I think it is important to realize that the number is way less than unemployment in other countries. With this being said, it is a fine line and difficult situation, as more jobs created in the country means that more money needs to be in the company to pay the workers. And these companies get more money by having more consumers, which consumers can only buy if they have an income - typically from a traditional job. This is a cycle that will be relevant until we find a solution to this problem, which could be having jobs made working on roads or in public places, until they are able to find a better job for themselves.

  5. A common theme in today's society is instant gratification. If people can't have what they want in this very moment, it's often not worth it to them. I think this concept applies in the unemployment world as well, because everyone wants to start out with high wages and nice benefits. In reality, workers need to start out at the bottom and work their way to higher wages, which a lot of people don't want. We need people to weigh the opportunity cost of getting a low paying job or not having a job at all, because it's more beneficial to work your way up than to not work at all.

  6. When people are job hunting, sometimes the only available jobs are dead-end or unavailable for someone of their skill level, and won’t lead them to a place where they can support themselves or a family. This is a large contributor to unemployment in America. I agree that more and more of our jobs are being replaced by technology; however many jobs are also being created by technology. Because we are a very innovative and technology-forward country, there is potential for job openings that don’t even exist yet. For example, with the rise of renewable energy and energy-efficient products, more employees will be needed to work at those places to help create those products. Of course, those workers will need to have the proper qualifications, but the idea provides an opening for a multitude of new opportunities.

  7. It is very hard to find a good job. If you want a good job you will have to go to college and work hard. For every well paying jobs there are multiple people that are candidates and you want to make sure that you stand out in a good way of everyone else looking for that same job so that it will become easier so you will have a better chance of getting the job that you applied for and want. Today companies are looking for the very best workers to help grow their companies. The workforce is very competitive because of all the people that are looking for jobs to make it easier to get a job you want to stand out from the rest.
